Tele-Psychiatry, Therapy, and Counseling… |
|
Private: Convenient and discreet, in the comfort of your home. No risk of running into the wrong person as you leave your appointment. Seeing a psychiatrist is nothing to be ashamed of— but your health is YOUR business, and only your business.
Confidential: Not affiliated with any local or regional systems. Invoices are submitted to your insurer according to your wishes and concerns. I do not use any external transcription or medical records services.
Respectful: Non-judgmental treatment by someone who understands how you feel. I have celebrated some successes, but I have also learned from my frustrations and failures. I will learn from you as you learn from me. I have worked as a psychiatrist in maximum-security prisons for women and for men, and even in those facilities I never felt ‘morally superior’ to my patients. We all do our best to get through life— who am I to judge?
Patient-Centered: Your appointment is about you— not me! Your needs determine the approach we take, whether medication, psychotherapy, or a combination of the two.
Qualified: I am Board Certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, and teach at the Medical College of Wisconsin. I also hold a PhD in Neuroscience from the University of Rochester Center for Brain Research. I am always aware of the latest findings in the fast-growing field of Psychiatry. |

In a ‘Nutshell’— Just Call! Read about my background and treatment style, read my articles from Psychiatric Times, or listen to my radio show. If you feel that we would be a ‘good fit’, simply call Nancy at my office. Everything in my practice is designed to allow maximum time with patients. My practice is not part of any network or large company. I have found that I enjoy time with patients more than time spent ‘managing’ a busy practice, so instead of seeing as many people as possible, I offer my services to people who want to establish a relationship with their psychiatrist. Just like ‘regular psychiatry’— except for not leaving home. My tele-psychiatry practice is identical to my ‘in-person’ practice, except that we meet over the telephone, with or without video. If you have a webcam, we can use Skype or any of the common messaging services. In most cases video is not necessary for psychiatric evaluation and treatment, but if you have a webcam, video certainly adds a great deal to the relationship. If you are a little uncomfortable using video we can start using only the telephone, and work our way to video according to your comfort level. I was a bit nervous using a webcam myself at first, not being someone who has used ‘chat rooms.’ But I found that after a few awkward minutes, it feels as if we are sitting across from each other— except the person didn’t have to drive to see me! Medication and/or Psychotherapy are provided— we decide on the treatment together. Tele-Psychiatry can consist of medication management, supportive psychotherapy, and/or psychodynamic psychotherapy. Most people are not absolutely certain which route to take at first, so one goal of our first discussion is to decide which form of treatment is best for you. I am able to prescribe medication for you, and medication is almost always a part of the treatment plan. If your treatment requires potent DEA-controlled medications such as pain pills or stimulants, you would do better with a live physician. Likewise, people who have had recent psychiatric admissions or who struggle with suicidal thoughts are better off with a psychiatrist who lives in their community, who can admit to a local hospital if necessary. Not sure if you are the right ‘type’ of patient? Send an e-mail and ask! |

Fond du Lac Psychiatry, my ‘in person’ office
I am proud of the space I have created for psychotherapy ‘in person’; If you live in the area, consider seeing me at my office on Main Street in Fond du Lac. The pictures were taken with my i-phone so they aren’t the highest quality, but the outdoor shots were taken directly out the window of my office. Yesterday under one of the pine trees there were two fawns, still a bit wobbly on their feet. A few days earlier a fox sat in the sunny area for 30 minutes, calmly giving himself (herself?) a ‘tongue bath.’ Now and then a person will interrupt his/her own conversation to say ‘look- a hawk!’
Some people have even set up a ‘blend’ arrangement, where they see me in person some days, and over the phone on days when the weather is bad or they just cannot fit the trip to my office into their busy schedule. Whatever works for you— we will make it work for your psychotherapy. |
